ASME Journal Accepting Papers for Special Issue on Medical Robotics and Human Interfaces

The ASME Journal of Medical Devices is currently seeking manuscripts for a new special issue focusing on medical robotics and human interfaces. Authors who are interested in having their papers included in the special issue, to be published in December 2020, should submit their manuscripts through the Journals Connect website by September 15, 2020.

In recent decades, significant advances have been made in the field of medical robotics. The potential for robotics applications in medicine remains vast, particularly in such areas as series and parallel robotic architectures, rigid and soft materials, and a variety of control approaches. New robotic medical applications will continue to emerge as the technologies spurring robotic solutions continue to mature and develop.

As the field has grown, so has interest in a related area: the interaction between human operators and robotic medical devices, since without appropriate and user-friendly interfaces, the uses of these technologies are limited. Haptic devices are just one example of the advances that interface devices can have on practical functionality and applicability of technology in medical applications.

The editors of the upcoming special issue are seeking manuscripts examining the following topics: kinematics and dynamics for medical robotics; exoskeletons and prostheses; humanoid and service robots; assistive robots and elderly assistance; surgical robots; human-robot interfaces; haptic devices; and medical treatments using robotics and automation.

Papers should be submitted to the ASME Journal of Medical Devices by June 15, 2020, through ASME Journals Connect at journaltool.asme.org. Authors who already have an account should log in and select “Submit Paper” at the bottom of the page. Authors who do not yet have an account should select “Submissions” and follow the instructions. When they reach the “Paper Submittal” page, authors should then choose “ASME Journal of Medical Devices” and then select “Medical Robotics and Human Interfaces” from the special issue drop-down menu. Papers received after the June 15, 2020, deadline or those not selected for inclusion in the special issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue of the journal.

The special issue editors are Med Amine Laribi, Ph.D., French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Institut PPRIME, University of Poitiers, France; email med.amine.laribi@univ-poitiers.fr; Carl Nelson, Ph.D., University of Nebraska-Lincoln, U.S.A.; email cnelson5@unl.edu; and Nandini Duraiswamy, Ph.D., U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S.A; email Nandini.Duraiswamy@fda.hhs.gov.
