AI and Robotic Massage, Delivered On-Demand

Machine learning and real-world robotics meet, offering on-demand body massages from an AI-controlled mechanical system. Companies like @Aescape are trying to revolutionize the wellness industry and are using technology to make self-care an on-demand experience.

Overhead noninvasive depth sensors (Aerscan) create a 3D model of the person on the massage table (Aertable), with over 1.1 million data points along the entire body surface. Force-sensitive Aerpoints, with seven precision-crafted and comfortably heated surfaces modeled after the hands of the human body, deliver precisely targeted pressure. The AI learns as it gains more feedback from body deformation as the Aerpoints press down on it, helping to train the system to get smarter about how it specifically responds to the individual and delivers a safe but effective massage. Torque sensors monitor pressure feedback, and there’s even an Emergency Stop for user safety.

Much work was required to figure out and build the software side of the equation since the developers wanted the machinery to convey the most human-like feeling possible in the massage process's familiar manipulations. In addition to having complete control of the experience via an interactive touchscreen console that allows for adjustment of pressure preferences, music, and onscreen visualizations, the information the AI amasses helps individually per treatment and collectively from one session to the next.
