ASME Announces 2025 ISHOW Africa Winners

ASME has announced the winners of its 2025 Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) Africa, an engineering accelerator dedicated to advancing hardware-led solutions for critical challenges in agriculture, energy, and healthcare.

Out of eight African ventures, three were selected to join the 2025 ISHOW cohort. Their innovations demonstrate how mechanical engineering can solve real-world problems:
  • CIST East Africa Industries (Kenya) – Developed a bioethanol micro-distillery that turns agricultural waste into clean-burning fuel for cooking and transportation.
  • I-Dress (Uganda) – Created an affordable, sterile wound dressing infused with honey and olive oil to accelerate healing in post-cesarean care in low-resource hospitals.
  • MariTest Africa (Uganda) – Introduced a portable, AI-powered malaria diagnostic device to support frontline health workers in remote areas lacking lab infrastructure.
The selected teams will attend a global ISHOW Bootcamp this winter, where they’ll receive tailored technical guidance and product design support. ASME ISHOW, supported by The Lemelson Foundation, has helped more than 250 startups across 35+ countries scale sustainable solutions aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s ISHOW Americas event will take place virtually from July 29–31.
