Out of eight African ventures, three were selected to join the 2025 ISHOW cohort. Their innovations demonstrate how mechanical engineering can solve real-world problems:
- CIST East Africa Industries (Kenya) – Developed a bioethanol micro-distillery that turns agricultural waste into clean-burning fuel for cooking and transportation.
- I-Dress (Uganda) – Created an affordable, sterile wound dressing infused with honey and olive oil to accelerate healing in post-cesarean care in low-resource hospitals.
- MariTest Africa (Uganda) – Introduced a portable, AI-powered malaria diagnostic device to support frontline health workers in remote areas lacking lab infrastructure.
