Turbo Expo to Celebrate 60th Anniversary This Year

More than 3,000 turbine professionals are expected to convene this June in Montreal, Canada, for the Society’s premier turbine technical event — the ASME Turbo Expo. Discounted registration rates are available until May 8 for the conference, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

This year’s Turbo Expo, to be held from June 15-19 at the Palais de Congrès, will feature a five-day technical program that sets the world standard for turbine technology events, as well as a three-day, premium exhibition featuring the industry’s leading providers of turbine products and services. The conference is sponsored by ASME and the ASME International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI).

One of the highlights of this year’s conference will be a special keynote session on Monday, June 15, addressing the theme “Building on our Heritage.” The session, which will be offered as a free live webcast from the conference, will feature presentations from three prominent members of the gas turbine community: Ed Hoskin, vice president of engine development programs at Pratt & Whitney Canada; Chris Lorence, general manager of engineering technologies for GE Aviation; and Ric Parker, director of research and technology for Rolls-Royce Group. The keynote will be followed by the ASME IGTI annual awards program honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the turbine technology and industry.

Seven pre-conference workshops, which will provide participants with in-depth career development instruction, will also be offered on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, at the Palais de Congrès. Topics to be addressed during the workshops will include “Introduction to Optimization Methods and Tools for Multidisciplinary Design in Turbomachinery,” “Gas Turbine Aerothermodynamics and Performance Calculations, “Wireless Temperature Measurement in Turbo-Machinery,” “Modeling Rotating Compressible Flows for Advanced Internal Cooling Design,” and “Gas Turbine Component Life Prediction and Life Cycle Management,” among other. For the complete list of workshops and details on what they will cover, visit www.asmeconferences.org/TE2015/ShortCourses.cfm.

Online registration is now open and attendees who sign up through May 8 will receive a discount on registration. Admission to the full five-day conference — which includes online access to final papers for technical conference registrants, access to all activities and admission to receptions, daily lunches, and other networking opportunities — is $950 for ASME members and $1,180 for non-members who register through May 8, and $100 more after that date. Three-day registration is also available. To learn more about registration pricing and the various registration packages, visit www.asmeconferences.org/TE2015/ConfRegistration.cfm.
