This is a detailed overview of the ASME Plant Systems Design Standard, PSD-1. The Standard provides a comprehensive, cohesive and tightly integrated design process workflow that is repeatable and can be tailored to any project. Integration of PSD-1 workflows into existing design workflows will fill existing design workflow gaps, identify and correct areas where closer cohesion and integration are needed, and improve existing design workflow to achieve more cost-effective project results.

By participating in this course, you will learn how to successfully:

  • Evaluate and communicate the scope, objectives and benefits of the Plant System Design Standard, including significance of Part 1 for implementing the workflow in Part 2 and importance of requirements definition and management.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the systems engineering design process across design phases by assessing its integration with risk evaluations and probabilistic design approaches.
  • Assess the effectiveness of integrating health, safety, and environmental risk evaluations with production risk assessments in optimizing both safety outcomes and performance objectives.
  • Analyze the probabilistic design process, including system and component screening, selection criteria, and probabilistic analysis to support risk-informed design decisions.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for owner operators, design organizations, project integrators, and regulatory agency personnel as well as project managers will benefit from application of PSD-1 to their projects. Since it is technology neutral, it is applicable to power generation facilities (nuclear and fossil), oil refining, oil and natural gas production, petrochemical, chemical, hazardous waste plants and facilities, and other large infrastructure projects.
