In this Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Combo Course from ASME you will learn the skills needed to interpret engineering designs and avoid mistakes that occur during the manufacturing process. The common language known as GD&T can help facilitate communication amongst key team members responsible for the production of a part. GD&T is an essential tool for communicating design intent – how the parts from technical drawings have the desired form, fit, function, and interchangeability. 

This official ASME learning path is designed to provide attendees with the skills and applied knowledge they need to avoid costly manufacturing mistakes, provide better quality control, and shorten delivery time.   

This official ASME learning path consists of two courses: 

Course 1:  Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing Fundamentals
This official ASME introductory geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) course trains participants to read/create engineering drawings and interpret design intent per the latest version of ASME Y14.5. 

  • Schedule: This course runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM Eastern each day, with breaks throughout.

Course 2:  Applications of GD&T and Tolerance Stacks 
This official ASME GD&T applications and tolerance stacks course will train participants on how to apply GD&T to their designs and perform tolerance stacks through authentic case studies. 

  • Schedule: This course runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM Eastern each day, with breaks throughout.

Who should attend? 
Designers, approver/decision makers, and any personnel who needs to read and/or interpret engineering drawings and their intent. Engineering, designing, drafting, quality control, procurement, tolling, production, purchasing, manufacturing, CAD inspection, and shop personnel. 

This ASME Virtual Classroom course is held live with an instructor on our online learning platform.  Certificate of completion will be issued to registrants who successfully attend and complete the course.

Instructors

Scott Neumann is president of GeoTol, Inc. He specializes in geometric tolerancing product definition, tolerance stack-up analysis, measurement data, and inspection techniques. Scott has presented hundreds of geometric tolerancing training programs to engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel at major corporations in the US and worldwide since 2007. Scott has also practiced consulting and mentoring to improve product documentation and inspection methods on a variety of products. The industries include aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, industrial, and consumer products. He has coauthored three textbooks and video programs on the subject: GeoTol Pro 2020 to the Y14.5-2018, GeoTol Pro to Y14.5-2009, and GeoTol Applications and Tolerance Stacks. Scott is 2009 Senior Level GDTP certified to ASME Y14.5.2 and is an active member of the following committees related to GD&T: 

  • ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Support Group member 
  • ASME Y14.5.1 Mathematical Definitions of Dimensioning and Tolerancing 
  • ASME Y14.5.2 Certification of Dimensioning and Tolerancing 
  • ASME Y14.45 Measurement Data Reporting 
  • AED Assembly Level Tolerancing 
  • Y14 US TAG Support Group in the ISO-GPS and ISO-TPD committees 

 Scott graduated from The University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

Patrick J. McCuistion, Ph.D., GDTPS, was an Associate Professor in the Engineering Technology and Management Department at Ohio University for 25 years. He taught Engineering Graphics, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Dimensional Analysis, Quality Management Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Technical Writing. Prior to that, he taught three years at Texas A&M University and one year at Pittsburg State University. He worked eight years in various engineering design, drafting, and design and drafting checking positions. He has provided instruction in geometric dimensioning, dimensional analysis, gage and fixture design, and dimensional metrology to industry, military, and educational institutions since 1986. He is certified as an ASME Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing Professional – Senior grade and as an ADDA Mechanical Drafter.
 
Dr. McCuistion has authored one book on geometric dimensioning, teaching courses on the following subjects: Drawing Interpretation, Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Advanced Geometric Dimensioning, and authored two, ASME self-study courses covering Drawing Formats, Line Conventions and Lettering, Orthographic and Pictorial Views, Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and Drawing Revisions.
 
Dr. McCuistion is active in the following ASME/ANSI codes and standards committees: Y14 Main, Y14.2 Line Conventions and Lettering, Y14.3 Orthographic and Pictorial Views, Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Y14.5.1 Mathematical Definition of Dimensioning and Tolerancing Principles, Y14.5.2 Certification of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals, Y14.8 Castings, Forgings, and Molded Parts, Y14.35 Revision of Engineering Drawings and Associated Documents, Y14.36 Surface Texture Symbols, Y14.43 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Principles for Gages and Fixtures, Y14.45 Measurement Data Reporting, and Y14/B89 Joint Advisory Committee (JAC1) on the Specification of Notation to Support Requirements for Size and Geometric Tolerances.
 
As Chair of the national SkillsUSA Technical Drafting competition, Dr. McCuistion creates the yearly design and drafting problem with solutions and a written test and coordinates all competition details.  The problem to be solved includes drawing and assembling 3D computer models of a product and creating dimensioned 2D views of those models based on national drawing standards.
