As an engineering professional working with pressure equipment, a comprehensive understanding of the design, fabrication, inspection, and fitness-for-service of pressure equipment is essential. 
 
This official ASME Design, Fabrication and Fitness-for-Service of Pressure Equipment Learning Path is comprised of two self-study eLearning courses accessible via ASME’s Learning Hub.  The courses provide an introduction to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section VIII, Division 1 and training in ASME B31, API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, ASME PCC-2, NBIC parts 2 and 3, and other Standards related to fitness-for-service and repairs.  It is designed to equip learners with the theoretical and practical skills to excel as a pressure equipment engineering professional.

This learning path features recordings of Live Virtual Classroom sessions taught by ASME’s expert Instructors designed for learners to gain first-hand experience completing a user design requirement (UDR) form, selecting materials, identifying design load conditions, determining post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) requirements and data report preparation. This is complemented by real-world examples to understand the risk-based inspection planning process and inspection techniques for fixed equipment with example calculations for the fitness-for-service assessment of actual damage and the remaining life of pressure equipment.

By participating in this course, you will learn how to successfully: 

  • Describe scope, purpose, and organization of the ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Rules for the Construction of Pressure Vessels  
  • Define allowable materials, explain how to reclassify materials and identify material traceability requirements  
  • Explain how to apply the Code rules to common design and fabrication situations  Detect types and causes of failures  
  • Make run-or-repair fitness-for-service decisions and assess how to make the right decision on equipment life extension
