ASME Launches AI Initiative to Modernize Engineering Standards
ASME is taking a major step into the future of engineering by collaborating with Articul8 AI to develop what the organizations describe as a first-of-its-kind generative artificial intelligence model designed specifically for engineering standards. The initiative aims to make ASME’s extensive library of engineering codes and standards more accessible, searchable, and actionable for engineers, designers, and technical professionals working across a wide range of industries.
The new domain-specific AI model is being developed to help users more efficiently navigate and interact with ASME standards that support the safe design, construction, and operation of critical infrastructure. These standards play an essential role in sectors including energy, manufacturing, aerospace, nuclear, petrochemical, oil and gas, and utilities.
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, the new system is being designed specifically around engineering content and technical requirements. The model leverages ASME’s proprietary standards portfolio and is intended to provide greater precision, traceability, and technical context when users seek information from complex engineering documents.
By collaborating with Articul8 to develop a domain-specific AI model for its standards, ASME is taking a leadership role in demonstrating how AI can be responsibly deployed in high-stakes engineering contexts; not as a replacement for human expertise but as a force multiplier that makes decades of accumulated engineering knowledge more accessible, searchable, and actionable for frontline product and systems designers, builders and implementers across industry sectors and engineering disciplines.
