ASME Convenes Briefing on AI and STEM Workforce Development

ASME and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently hosted an in-person congressional briefing in conjunction with the Senate Artificial Intelligence Caucus to explore “AI and National STEM Workforce Development Needs.” The briefing featured science and technology leaders at the intersection of research, education, technology, and workforce development policy to help policymakers explore how Congress and federal agencies can best facilitate AI tools for workforce development.

The briefing also explored what institutional resources are needed to advance U.S. competitiveness in AI-enabled technology applications across varying levels of education, especially access to high performance computing resources. Panelists also discussed how federal agencies are approaching the intersection of emerging technology and workforce talent. Speakers included:
