Alert: Stop the Pro Codes Act

Alert: Stop the Pro Codes Act

Over the past year, ASME has been active on Capitol Hill defending the standards industry from the Pro Codes Act – legislation that threatens the existence of Standards Organizations (SDOs) and the work we all do on behalf of the American people.

This legislation is rapidly being pushed through Congress without careful review or appropriate oversight. As written, the bill mandates that standards development organizations like ASME would be mandated to put their standards online for free or lose their copyright, jeopardizing the ability of SDOs to support their missions of public safety and threatening the ability of manufacturers in the global marketplace. This legislation has the potential to decimate ASME and other non-profit SDOs which make up the safety standards eco-system.
