Information Storage & Processing Systems Division
Information Storage & Processing Systems Division (ISPS) of ASME serves the mechanical engineer engaged in the data storage and information processing systems industries, such as printers, scanners and digital cameras.
The Information Storage & Processing Systems Division of ASME serves the mechanical engineer engaged in the data storage and information processing systems industries, such as printers, scanners and digital cameras.
The primary focus has been in the rapidly growing data storage industry dominated by rigid and floppy disks, magnetic tape, VCR and optical disk technologies. Numerous mechanics and material problems are found with the domains of these "miniature" products, where nano- & micro- are the common dimension prefixes!
Let us know if we can help you be a better engineer, or consider joining us and becoming an active and involved ASME member.

Honors & Awards
Recognition of outstanding achievement in engineering is one of the major objectives of ASME. Through its programs of honors and awards, ASME recognizes outstanding contributions to the art and science of engineering.
Awarded for dedication to the Information Storage and Processing Systems Division and for excellence in research and contribution to the data storage industry.
- Graduate Student Fellowship
To encourage technical research related to the field of information storage and processing systems, among Mechanical Engineering graduate students across the world. The ISPS graduate student fellowship will be awarded once each calendar year. View more information on this award.
- Graduate Student Conference Scholarship
Five graduate student scholarships are offered for the ISPS Conference. The conference scholarship offers free of charge enrollment to the conference, all handouts, and catered meals. All graduate students who wish to be considered for the scholarship are required to submit a brief (1 page maximum) description of the student’s thesis research and a brief statement of the applicability of their thesis research to the research areas of the ISPS Division.
Procedure: Interested students need to submit a letter (e-mail) of intent and the brief document described above by March 31st of each year to the chair of the awards committee.
Note that there is a limit of two graduate students per academic advisor for the the Conference Scholarships.
