ASME Turbo Expo 2011 to Be Held in Vancouver, Canada

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2010 – ASME Turbo Expo 2011, focusing on the theme “Clean and Efficient Turbo-machinery Technologies for Future Low Carbon Economies,” will be held June 6-10, 2011, at the Vancouver Exhibition and Conference Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

ASME Turbo Expo – Gas Turbine Technical Congress and Exposition will bring together engineers, research scientists, educators and other professionals involved in the design, operation, and maintenance of stationary gas turbines and aero-engines. Combining a technical program and exhibit, ASME Turbo Expo 2011 will cover engine design, materials, fans and blowers, cogeneration, combustion diagnostics, and micro-turbines, among other topics.

The technical program also will include presentations on wind turbines, solar energy, and other alternative energy technologies, reflecting the increasing interest in global environmental protection and carbon reduction. Presentations will focus on the latest advances in research, experimentation, and system applications.

“Innovative cycles and new component technologies to improve efficiency and reduce cost will speed up the development of renewable energy sources such as solar, biomass, geothermal and wind power,” said Dr. Thomas Sattelmayer of the Technical University of Munich, who is the conference chair of ASME Turbo Expo 2011.

The three-day exposition at Turbo Expo will showcase the products and services of engine manufacturers, software developers, research laboratories, and other firms in the worldwide power industry. Other events will include the keynote session, facility tours, and continuing education workshops.

In addition to Sattelmayer, other individuals who will be responsible for leadership, organization and arrangements at Turbo Expo 2011 are Ibrahim Yimer, Ph.D., National Research Council Canada (executive conference chair); Timothy Snyder, Pratt & Whitney (technical program chair); Dale Hunt, ADHoc Services (local liaison committee chair), and Dr. Karen Thole, Ph.D., Pennsylvania State University (review chair).

IGTI, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., supports the exchange of information focused on improving the design, manufacture, operation and maintenance, and environmental impact of gas turbines, turbo-machinery, and related equipment.

About ASME ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.
