Student Leaders Needed for ASME IGTI Student Advisory Committee

Student Leaders Needed for ASME IGTI Student Advisory Committee

The ASME International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) is currently accepting applications for vice chair and secretary of its Student Advisory Committee (SAC) through May 20. The two officers will each serve from July 2020 to June 2021.

The Student Advisory Committee represents the interests of students who attend the annual ASME Turbomachinery Technical Conference and Exposition (Turbo Expo) while also serving as a liaison to the ASME IGTI. The committee works to engage engineering students in the ASME IGTI by creating and organizing student-oriented programming at Turbo Expo, including tutorial sessions and activities that encourage student interaction and networking with gas turbine professionals.

The Student Advisory Committee vice chair is responsible for supporting the chair’s activities and acting as a representative for the committee if the chair is not available. The vice chair is also responsible for supervising subcommittees, and for recruiting and leading student technical committee liaisons. The vice chair, who is actively involved in the SAC’s decision-making process, will go on to succeed the SAC chair the following year. The chair will then go on to lead the SAC annual meeting at Turbo Expo 2022, administrate all Student Advisory Committee meetings, and represent and provide an update on the committee at the board meeting at the 2022 IGTI executive committee meeting held during Turbo Expo.

Students interested in applying for the vice chair position should submit an application accompanied by a resume or CV to the SAC at sac.igti@gmail.com by May 20. Visit https://event.asme.org/Events/media/library/resources/turbo/IGTI-ViceChairApplication.pdf to download an application.

Students may also apply for the Student Advisory Committee secretary position. The secretary is responsible for drafting all formal correspondence for the committee. The selected candidate will take notes during all committee meetings, distribute the meeting minutes to committee members, coordinate monthly SAC meetings, and keep track of committee action items.

To apply for the secretary position, students should submit an application along with a resume or CV by email by May 20 to the SAC at sac.igti@gmail.com. Applications are accessible by visiting https://event.asme.org/Events/media/library/resources/turbo/IGTI-SecretaryApplication.pdf.

Applicants for both positions will be notified of their status by June 3. An election with the full Student Advisory Committee will happen during a Zoom meeting on Thursday, June 25, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
