U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney of California is one the few members of Congress with a technical background. An ASME Fellow, he earned a Ph.D. in mathematics and has held energy-related positions at Sandia National Laboratories and in the private sector. He co-founded the bipartisan Grid Innovation Caucus to highlight the problems of an outdated electrical grid and developmentsin smart technology.
