Across the globe, renewable energy capacity is being added at levels not seen before. The International Renewable Energy Agency reported that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, 260 GW of renewables were added in 2020, a number that beat the previous record by almost 50 percent. Renewable’s share of new generating capacity jumped again for the second straight year. More than 80 percent of all new electric generating capacity added was renewable, mostly wind and solar.
