Office of Management and Budget Soliciting Feedback on the Future of Artificial Intelligence Standards

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is seeking advice from the public on ways to bolster the U.S’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. In a new request for information (RFI) OMB is requesting “the public to identify needs for additional access to, or improvements in the quality of, Federal data and models that would improve the Nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) research and development (R&D) and testing efforts.”

Beyond just looking at how to advance AI technology, the RFI seeks feedback on how to advance AI in specific areas including:

  • Transportation
  • Healthcare
  • Manufacturing
  • Financial Services
  • Agriculture
  • Weather Forecasting
  • National Security and Defense
The request also seeks to leverage the feedback garnered to help ensure federal agencies are realizing the directives set forth in Trump’s February executive order to calls for a government-wide push to making the U.S. a leader in AI technology. Questions such as “As agencies review their data and models, what are the most important characteristics they should consider? Stated differently, what characteristics of data sets or models make them well-suited for AI R&D” Show the administration’s emphasis on data and augmenting AI technological capabilities and applications.

All written submissions to the RFI should be submitted through www.regulations.gov by August 9.
