NIH Seeks Input on Competition for Gender Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce

The National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering at the National Institute of Health (NIH) recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) inviting comments and suggestions on developing a prize-competition for Gender Diversity in the Biomedical Research Workforce. In recognizing institutions that focus on enhancing faculty gender equality, the competition aims to increase the representation of women at the faculty-level in science and medicine, and in particular to promote more women to mid-to-senior-level positions.

Through this award, NIH hopes to identify institutions that are committed to reducing barriers for women and to disseminate best-practices. Programs that work to enhance pathways to leadership positions for women will be eligible for recognition. The recently issued RFI calls for specific recommendations in regards to developing the structure, content, judging criteria, timing, and dissemination of the award, as well as asking the public to identify potential roadblocks that might prohibit exemplary institutions from being considered.

Responses to the request must be submitted by October 31, 2019.
