NERC Summer Assessment Highlights Grid Reliability and Resilience Shortfalls

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) 2022 Summer Reliability Assessment (SRA) reports on areas of concern regarding the reliability of the North American bulk power system for the upcoming summer season (July – September).

The most recent report highlights challenges ranging from capacity shortfalls and drought to constraints in the electric infrastructure supply chain that will present significant challenges to NERC’s mission to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid this summer.

ASME’s Energy Public Policy Task Force recently issued a position statement on “Ensuring a Reliable and Resilient Electrical Grid,” which outlines recommendations to improve the operation, reliability, and resiliency of the electric grid.
