IEA World Energy Outlook 2022 Highlights Russia-Ukraine, Global Energy Crisis

The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) World Energy Outlook 2022 places a key focus on the global energy crisis triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Key effects from the crisis include unprecedented import bills for natural gas, dramatic pressure on global energy markets and consumers, and a wide variety of government interventions to accelerate clean energy technology transitions.

The WEO is the IEA’s flagship publication on global energy supply and demand, analyzing different scenarios and the implications for energy security, climate targets, and economic development. Based on the latest energy data, the 2022 WEO explores key questions about the Russia-Ukraine crisis, including the impact on clean energy transitions and which energy security risks lie ahead on the path to net zero emissions.
