ASME Testifies Before House Judiciary in Opposition of the Pro Codes Act
ASME has been actively advocating against HR 4072, the Pro Codes Act, in Congress. Recently, ASME had the opportunity to testify before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee during a hearing on “Protecting U.S. Leadership in Codes Development and Enhancing Public Access.”
ASME General Counsel, John Deli Venneri urged lawmakers to oppose the bill, cautioning that the legislation would weaken copyright protections for nonprofit standards developers, undercut the public-private standards system, and risk U.S. leadership, safety, and innovation by destabilizing how critical engineering standards are developed and maintained.
