Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) for Turbomachinery in the light of Digitalization

For over 60 years Turbo Expo (TE) has been successfully providing insight into the latest technologies for turbomachinery in applications for propulsion, power and mechanical drive. The latest trends in digitalization do not only affect the way turbomachines are designed, but also have an impact on Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). Nowadays, turbomachines are monitored extensively using advanced sensor technology providing data that is processed in sophisticated models. The combination of digital replicas that account for a variety of physical phenomena, pinpoint repair technology and customized manufacturing opens up for revolutionizing the MRO sector. The Gas Turbine Segment and IGTI Leadership Team as well as TE Committees strongly believe that a concentration on MRO/Digital during TE18 is of great benefit for the Turbo Expo community.

A number of TE Committees are interested in MRO/Digital. For TE18 in Oslo, abstracts for technical papers on the various aspects of MRO/Digital are sought

  • Life Prediction
  • Repair Technologies, etc.

These and other related topics are of high interest to the technical committees for a series of sessions, including joint sessions, on MRO/Digital.

The planned, focused approach to MRO/Digital is a single track (avoiding overlapping sessions if possible) devoted to MRO/Digital at Turbo Expo 2018 in Oslo, Norway (June 11‐15) that will address the various aspects of MRO/Digital for turbomachinery. The plan for this track is to start with a tutorial session to bring attendees up to speed on MRO/Digital, a plenary panel from industry leaders discussing the impact of latest trend in digitalization and advanced repair technologies on the MRO sector and technical sessions on the various aspects of MRO/Digital. It is planned to supplement the MRO/Digital track with exhibitors showing their latest capabilities and equipment. The goal is to generate and capture the basic and applied R&D and know‐how for the Turbo Expo community.

If you are interested in presenting a paper on MRO/Digital at TE18 in Oslo, please submit an abstract through the conference link www.asmeconferences.org/TE2018. Please explicitly select the Publication Type: "Technical Publication – MRO/Digital," and a suitable Technical Committee. The various paper sessions from the Technical Committees will be organized into the focused MRO/Digital technical track for TE18. Authors who do not wish to do so may submit their abstract as regular Technical Publication."

Your active participation benefits not only yourself and your organization, but also the entire technical community.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) for Gas Turbines

For over 60 years Turbo Expo (TE) has been successfully providing insight into the latest technologies for turbomachinery in applications for propulsion, power and mechanical drive. Developments in Additive Manufacturing (AM) promise to revolutionize the design of turbomachinery by making it possible to make parts that were previously only dreamed about. AM also promises to revolutionize the repair of turbomachinery, by enabling repairs and upgrades that were previously considered unrealistic. Simply put, we are on the threshold of a brand new world in turbomachinery made possible by AM. The Gas Turbine Segment and IGTI Leadership Team, and TE Committees strongly believe that a concentration on AM during TE18 is of great benefit for the Turbo Expo community.

  • A number of TE Committees are interested in AM. For TE18 in Oslo, abstracts for technical papers on the various aspects of AM are sought

  • Manufacturing
  • Mechanical and Physical Properties
  • Heat Transfer
  • Design and Design Tools
  • Life Prediction
  • The Various Applications of AM in Turbomachinery
  • Repair by AM (as well as repair of AM components), etc.

These and other related topics are of high interest to the technical committees for a series of sessions, including joint sessions, on AM.

The planned, focused approach to AM is a single track (avoiding overlapping sessions if possible) devoted to AM at Turbo Expo 2018 in Oslo, Norway (June 11‐15) that will address the various aspects of AM for turbomachinery. The plan for this track is to start with a tutorial session to bring attendees up to speed on AM, a plenary panel from industry leaders discussing AM’s impact on their current and future products and services, panels addressing the latest technological developments in AM, and paper sessions on the various aspects of AM. It is planned to supplement the AM track with a student poster session on their research on AM, and exhibitors showing their latest capabilities and equipment. The goal is to generate and capture the basic and applied R&D and know‐how for the Turbo Expo community.

If you are interested in presenting a paper on AM at TE18 in Oslo, please submit an abstract through the conference link.
