ASME to Support Discover Engineering Family Day

NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2012 – ASME will support the Discover Engineering Family Day this Feb. 18 in Washington, D.C., as part of the Society’s lead role in the planning and organizing of Engineers Week 2012.

Among other activities aimed to inspire a greater awareness of engineering among young people, ASME at Family Day will sponsor a food elevator, one of 12 lessons and activities from the Heroes of Engineering – Design Challenges workbook. The workbooks will be among the materials available to K-12 educators attending the event. Thousands are expected to turn out for this free Family Day event at the National Building Museum.

Engineers Week 2012 officially kicks off on Feb. 19.  Engineers Week celebrates the positive contributions engineers make to society and is a catalyst for outreach programs across the country, particularly in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education awareness.

As co-chair of EWeek 2012, ASME supports the mission of the National Engineers Week Foundation to sustain and grow a dynamic engineering profession through outreach, education, celebration, and volunteerism. Beyond Family Day, ASME’s activities for EWeek include the DiscoverE Summit, DiscoverE Educator Recognition Awards, and Inspire Innovation Workshops.
