Examining data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Economic Innovation Group (EIG) reported that, nationally, employment has rebounded to 2019 levels. However, the good news is not distributed equally across the United States. The growth is concentrated in the Sun Belt and Mountain West, while the “Rust Belt continues to rust,” the D.C.-based public policy organization reported.
This growth is concentrated geographically, EIG concluded. For example, 20 states, and the District of Columbia, “still have fewer manufacturing jobs than before the pandemic,” it said.
