Geraldine Gooding, D.Eng.

Geraldine Gooding, D.Eng. is an engineer, educator, entrepreneur, and change agent whose career spans over 15 years in the urban planning, engineering, and education fields. Dr. Gooding currently serves as Director of the Engineering Education & Outreach Department at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where she oversees projects and initiatives impacting the global K-12 and college/university communities through innovative classroom and curriculum support, professional development, scholarships, workforce development, and academic program accreditation (ABET). Dr. Gooding also seeks opportunities to lead initiatives at the intersection of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and engineering to improve formal and informal education for all. Outside of work, she enjoys mentoring and empowering youth from elementary to high school to reach their highest potential and teaches after-school enrichment classes in engineering.

Cheryl Hasan

Cheryl Hasan serves as Manager of the Engineering Education and Outreach for ASME. In this multifaceted role, she manages programs and activities related to the ASME role in the quality assurance and advancement of formal engineering education; and evaluates, builds and manages the ASME Scholarship program. In collaboration with the Director of Education and Outreach, she serves as ASME co-principal liaison with the ABET staff, managing all ASME/ABET operational activities, annual program evaluator selection and assignment to ABET accreditation visits, ASME evaluator recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.


Patti Jo Rosenthal
Manager, K-12 Programs

Patti Jo serves as the Manager of K-12 Programs for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).  She has over 25 years in non-profit management, developing and executing program elements and related stewardship, governance, and engagement strategies. In this role, Patti Jo drives ASME’s nationally scaled STEM education initiative, producing content and related experiences designed to bring forward real-world stories and career exploration of creative solution seekers that infuse the optimism, empathy, and curiosity vital to “thinking like an engineer.” A champion for increased access to engineering education, Patti Jo leads over a hundred classroom engagements and events annually, leveraging storytelling and hands-on challenges to initiate conversations with students concerning STEM career exploration and their capacity to be problem-solvers for good. Overall ASME’s K-12 programs reach 70K+ students annually, 65% of which are from Title 1 qualified school communities.
