Correspondence from ASME's Executive Director On Recent Events

Dear Colleagues,

I am personally deeply saddened by the recent events in Minneapolis, New York City and elsewhere around the US. I want to assure you that ASME is deeply committed to demonstrating leadership to encourage, facilitate, and support the principles of diversity and inclusion in our staff, volunteer community, and the engineering profession globally.

In demonstrating that leadership, ASME has established a set of Guiding Principles that serve as the foundation for our approach to foster ever greater diversity and inclusion. These principles support our conviction that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds create a healthier, more creative work environment that delivers robust solutions and better outcomes.

As we progress through this challenging period, our focus on these Guiding Principles should remain steadfast:

  • We are a global, diverse, and inclusive Society.
  • We are a society that adheres to the highest standards.
  • We are a Society focused on the next generation.
ASME will continue to be a positive force for achieving a diverse and inclusive environment that provides the opportunity for each of us to reach our full potential.

With regards,

Thomas Costabile, P.E.
ASME Executive Director/CEO
