Drum Roll Please…The Results Are In!

The 2020 – 2021 program year created many new challenges for ASME’s 150-plus global professional sections. Our sections took on these challenges, becoming more innovative, inclusive, entrepreneurial and tech-savvy.

During this timeframe, the Professional Section Recognition Program was created by the Member Development and Engagement (MDE) Council and the Section Operations Team. This new recognition program was designed to shine a light on the amazing work our professional sections produce throughout the ASME program year, and includes four awards: Section Achievement, Section of the Year, Innovation, and Best Activity Ever Award.

The Section Achievement award was presented to 18 of our well deserving sections meeting the first level of excellence. The top three honors, the Section of the Year, Innovation, and Best Activity Ever Awards were part of a nomination process and recognize sections for their outstanding achievements in community engagement, membership growth, unique programming, and out-of-the box activities. A selection committee of MDR volunteers (Desmond Chong, International Region Chair; Monica Moman-Saunders, Old Guard Committee Chair; Jared Oehring, Finance Committee Chair; Ying Ping, Member-at-Large) was convened to review and score the nominations submitted by the sections.

The Section Achievement awardees receive one free ASME membership to share with a deserving engineer in their local area. Sections awarded the top honors will receive additional funding from the Section Activity Funding Program (SAFP). Congratulations to the 2020-2021 award recipients.
