Taita Ngetich and his team at Illuminum Greenhouses develop and sell greenhouses and irrigation systems for small-scale farmers in Kenya. Their Smart Mobile Farming system consists of moisture and temperature sensors that transmit data via SMS. The farmer can then use his mobile phone to remotely start and stop drip irrigation. Ngetich says their system will reduce water waste and improve yields, including for cash crops.
