Video: Electricity Use in American Homes

Electricity plays a bigger role than ever before in the household energy usage.
American homes traditionally used a variety of energy sources, such as firewood, fuel oil, and now natural gas. Electricity, which was once used only for appliances, is now used by an increasing number of homes as the sole energy source. New data from the Energy Information Administration shows that some traditional uses of natural gas are being replaced by electricity.
