The ASME Journal of Vibrations and Acoustics (JVA) invites submissions for to the special issue entitled From Structural Dynamics to Smart Systems: A Tribute to Professor Daniel J. Inman's Contributions to Engineering Science.

To celebrate the achievements of Professor Inman over a distinguished career spanning more than 45 years and his seminal contributions to the fields of Vibrations, Piezoelectric Materials, Smart Structures, Structural Health Monitoring, Morphing Aircraft, Energy harvesting, and Vibrations Control, this special issue invites submissions inspired by his research contributions. This special issue aims to publish original research contributions that explore both theoretical foundations and practical applications in the field of acoustics and vibrations.

Topic Areas

The special issue would focus on recent advances, emerging directions, and future challenges including but not limited to:

  • Novel solutions in engineering vibrations and vibration control
  • Emerging uses of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in vibration engineering
  • Smart and adaptive structures
  • Energy harvesting
  • Active, recongfigurable, or tunable acoustic metamaterials and their applications for noise and vibration reduction

Special Issue Publication Dates

Paper submission deadline: January 1, 2027
Initial review completed: April 15, 2027
Publication date: December 2027

Submission Instructions

Papers should be submitted electronically to the journal through the ASME Journal Tool. If you already have an account, log in as an author and select Submit Paper. If you do not have an account, you can create one here

Once at the Paper Submittal page, select the Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, and then under the Special Issue field, select From Structural Dynamics to Smart Systems: A Tribute to Professor Daniel J. Inman's Contributions to Engineering Science.

Only submissions that meet the highest standards of quality and merit will undergo a rigorous peer-review process. Papers accepted with minor revisions will be considered for inclusion in the special issue of JVA.

Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for the Special Issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.
