Pam Hurley, PhD
Hurley Write, Inc.
Pam Hurley, PhD, founded Hurley Write, Inc., a certified women-owned small business, in 1988. Pam earned her doctorate from the University of South Carolina in Composition and Rhetoric with a minor in Technical Writing. Before starting Hurley Write, Pam taught various writing courses at UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Charlotte, George Washington University, and Duke University.
Pam started her business because her students, many of whom were engineering majors, felt that they “couldn’t” write and so didn’t take writing courses seriously. What many of them believed was that, as engineers, writing would be a negligible part of their careers. Pam knew, however, that writing would be of paramount importance in their work and even more important if they were to advance in their careers.
Based on this knowledge and because she wanted to fully prepare her engineering students to be able to successfully tackle writing projects in the workplace, Pam created a series of courses designed specifically for engineers.
After she quit academia, she marketed these same courses to engineering companies and companies that employed engineers. Clients include the IRS, L3, EMC2, NAVAIR, and Pratt & Whitney, to name a few.
Pam earned her master’s degree in literature at the UNC-Wilmington, where she worked as a graduate assistant and was later hired as an adjunct, which she did for 10 years.
Pam is an award-winning lecturer and a successful businesswoman; Hurley Write works with some of the largest companies in the world, helping them understand and solve their writing issues. Clients include Apple, Meta, Facebook, Microsoft, Intel, Pfizer, and Progressive Insurance, to name a few.
In 2026, Hurley Write’s online courses were awarded “Best of the Best Online Courses 2026.”
