Dr. Michael J. Pfeifer is a seasoned metallurgical engineer and president of Industrial Metallurgists, LLC, where he leads engineering consulting efforts in product design, manufacturing process development, quality improvement, and failure analysis. With decades of industry experience, he has supported companies in the aerospace, automotive, electronics, and medical device sectors, offering deep expertise in metals, coatings, adhesives, and joining methods.
Before founding Industrial Metallurgists, Dr. Pfeifer held key engineering and leadership roles at Motorola, where he contributed to the development of advanced electronics and manufacturing processes. He has authored and taught a range of metallurgy courses for engineers, including those focused on design, corrosion prevention, and failure analysis, which are offered by leading industry organizations such as ASTM, SAE, and AWS.
Dr. Pfeifer received a B.S. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.
