This course provides an introduction to the different parts of the ASME B31.4 Code. The B31.4 Code establishes requirements for safe design, construction, inspection, testing, operation and maintenance of liquid pipeline systems. It was the first code to be published separately for oil transportation piping. Assessing pipeline integrity is an essential part of this Code to ensure the safe transportation of liquids, such as gas and slurries.
This course covers the requirements for constructing, assembling, and inspecting pipelines.
After completion of this course you will be able to:
- Explain the scope and applications of ASME B31.4
- Identify the loads considered within the Code, as well as the design criteria when encountering these loads
- Identify the materials that conform to the requirements of the Code
- Identify the requirements for the Operation and Maintenance procedures affecting the safety of liquid and slurry transportation piping systems
- Describe the different requirements related to inspection and testing of a pipeline
