Global population growth and transition out of poverty is driving energy demand while societal pressures are simultaneously demanding decarbonization. As the global energy needs are evolving, demand expected to increase amid a transition to a lower carbon economy. We all have the responsibility and opportunity to successfully meet these energy needs both today and into the future. To promote responsible energy development water treatment solutions, engineering applications, technology innovation, transparency and disclosures and climate change will all need to be considered when designing and deploying industrial water treatment solutions in today’s Energy industry. Water specifications requirements, best practices, and standards are changing to better align with ESG factors as these could materially impact the energy industry future financial and operational results. Developing water treatment and infrastructure for a sustainable future, life cycle costs will need to be aligned with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (“SASB”) and Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) to better understand the nature, scope, and timelines that drives today’s business decisions in the Energy industry. To achieve best in class water management, industry best practices and standards such as the EPA will be considered to continuously improve operations, emissions, and water treatment processes. In consideration of best practices, visualization tools that displays an aggregate and geospatially referenced data will enable the Energy industry to consider water treatment infrastructure development and treatment flexibility to accommodate water demand and changing water chemistry. However, the Energy industry participants can offer their perspective on how to implement meaningful and effective regulation of the Energy industry to promote responsible energy development and ensure that we are well-positioned to tackle tomorrow’s challenges but also operate within the broader regulatory framework.
