Description

Join the ASME Mid-Continent Seminar Series on Thursday, May 11th for a presentation by Jim Rector, Knighten Industries: The Ins and Outs of Pumps: A Comprehensive Discussion on all Types and Kinds. Pumps are used to transport fluids by increasing their pressure and flow rate, and they come in various types and configurations. The two main categories of pumps are kinetic and positive displacement pumps. Centrifugal pumps are the most commonly used type of kinetic pump due to their high efficiency and low maintenance requirements. Various types of centrifugal pumps include single-stage overhung (foot-mounted or vertically inline), close-coupled, wet self-priming, and horizontal split-case multistage pumps, as well as other pumps such as double-suction, barrel, vertical turbine, submersible, pitot tube, high-speed gear, side-channel, regenerative turbine, and sliding-shoe pumps. Positive displacement pumps include reciprocating piston/plunger, progressive cavity, air-operated diaphragm, sliding vane, gear, and screw pumps, as well as rotary lobe, circumferential piston, drum, flexible impeller, and hose pumps. Diaphragm/PCP metering pumps are used for precision applications. Jim Rector is a seasoned Sales Account Manager with over three decades of experience in the surface pump industry. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited) and served as a Patriot Missile Officer in the US Army at Fort Bliss, TX. Throughout his career, Jim has worked for several renowned companies in the industry, including Goulds Pumps, Texas Process Eqt, Flowtronex Intl, Reda/Schlumberger, Best Eqt, Baker Hughes Centrilift, Hemmen Pumping Systems, and currently, Knighten Industries in Tulsa, OK, where he serves as a Sr Sales Engineer covering the NE OK Territory.
