ASME Metro Detroit Section & University of Michigan Student Section: Pathways to Sustainable Energy

This event marks a continuation of the "Industry Days" event series being hosted by the ASME University of Michigan chapter, in order to help undergraduate engineering students gain an insight into various industries where Mechanical Engineering skills are applied. The event will focus on the rapidly evolving energy/sustainability space. The aim of this event will be to give students an opportunity to learn more about the energy industry, and to ask any questions they may have. The event will feature a panel, consisting of Energy Industry Professionals and researchers involved in the field who will discuss the following topics: (1) Vision for a sustainable future; (2) Key trends on the horizon for the energy and sustainability fields; (3) Evolving technologies that will play a key role in the energy transition; (4) Evolution and adaptation of energy-intensive legacy industries (emphasis on fields traditionally involving mechanical engineers, such as Automotive, Upstream Oil and Gas Etc.) (5) Role of Mechanical Engineers (emphasis on interaction with other fields, and important skills required to support the transition); (6) Advice to students who would like to get involved with this field, or best prepare themselves for the transition ahead; and (7) Advice to students who would like to get involved with the field, or best prepare themselves for the transition ahead. In addition, a part of the schedule would be reserved for the audience in attendance to ask questions of the panelists. We welcome seasoned professionals to join in this event also, as it can give them an overview of current technology developments within the energy industry and hopefully add any mentoring advice to the group during our Q&A session.
