Description

This event is a continuation of the "Industry Days" event series being hosted by the ASME University of Michigan chapter, in order to help Undergraduate Engineering students gain an insight into various industries where Mechanical Engineering skills are applied. The aim of this event will be to give students an opportunity to learn more about the Biomedical and Healthcare sectors. Students will be exposed to a field that is not frequently discussed in a Mechanical Engineering Context, and will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. The event will feature a panel consisting of experts in the field who will discuss the following topics: (1) Key trends on the horizon for the industry; (2) Factors and challenges driving the evolution (including factors that make the field unique); (3) Roles that engineers without a biomedical background play in the industry's functioning (especially Mechanical Engineers, and how their skills and knowledge make an impact in the field); (4) Personal experience and insights of participants (applying engineering knowledge, learnings from working in the industry, typical responsibilities etc.); (5) Unique role of the industry in societal well-being, including the present context of the ongoing COVID pandemic; and (6) Advice for students interested in working with the industry either in graduate studies or in their careers. Part of the schedule would be reserved for the audience in attendance to ask questions of the panelists. We welcome seasoned professionals to join in this event to give an overview of the current technology developments within the industry, and to add any mentoring advice to the group during our Q&A session.
