Description

Join the ASME Central Virginia Section and the Eastern Virginia Chapter of ASM International for a tour of the Gerdau Steel Plant on November 16th. Gerdau Petersburg is a structural steel mill under the Gerdau Long Steel North America Division. The mill uses 100% recycled steel scrap and produces a variety of structural shapes for buildings, bridges, etc. Previously Chaparral Steel, this mill was acquired in 2007 by Gerdau, a Brazilian company, and the 14th largest steel producer in the world. The tour will consist of a brief safety presentation by the plant’s safety manager, then a comprehensive tour through the melt shop and rolling mill. The mill will be in full operation during the tour, so the attendees will get a chance to see what heavy industry is really like! There is no cost to attend the tour. Reserve your spot by November 14th. View the link above to learn more, including how to RSVP. We hope you will attend!
