This Second Edition includes standards for three technologies for elevator suspension, namely:
• Stranded carbon steel wire ropes
• Aramid fiber ropes
• Noncircular elastomeric-coated steel suspension members
Each part of the standard includes the material properties, design, testing, inspection, and replacement criteria for these means. A17.6 also includes the requirements for these three technologies, and provides direction for future constructions as new technology develops. Uniform standards for these important items are necessary to ensure consistent levels of safety.
This Second Edition is unique in the world in addressing elevator suspension. It is intended to be used in conjunction with ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. Moreover, A17.6 is a part of ASME's full series of A17 Codes and Standards, plus ASME’s related offerings, to provide you with the most comprehensive set of solutions available today for governing elevator systems.
Intended for anyone engaged in the safety of elevators, escalators, and related conveyances, including those responsible for: design, engineering, and manufacture; installation, operation, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repair; inspection; plans, contracts, administration, insurance, and liability; property, facilities, and plant management; and emergency response.
