The ASME Turbo Expo Early Career Engineer Travel Award
ASME Unit: International Gas Turbine Institute
Date Established: 2003
Achievement: The ASME IGTI Executive Committee instituted an award for young engineers in order to facilitate the participation of worthy young professionals to Turbo Expo.
Nomination Deadline: February 2, 2026
Form of Award: The Turbo Expo Early Career Engineer Travel Award is intended for graduate early career engineers working in industry, in government or in academia to supplement their travel funding to attend ASME Turbo Expo to present a paper which they have authored or co-authored. The purpose is to help young engineers maintain active and fruitful participation with the Turbo Expo community. The award includes:
The nominee must have obtained their final academic degree (Bachelor, Master, PhD, or equivalent degrees) in an engineering discipline related to turbomachinery five calendar years, or less, prior to the year of the Turbo Expo at which the paper will be presented. For clarity, the calendar year is defined as starting January 1. The paper being presented can be research results from work completed either while pursuing an academic degree, or after leaving school and entering the job field. Students, including doctoral research students, are not eligible for this award (students interested in financial assistance may apply for the Student Advisory Committee travel award, SACTA, if eligible). Candidates are invited to disclose substantial career breaks, which will not count towards the five-year eligibility period.
Applications will be evaluated based on the individual’s accomplishments to date (academic degree, previous publications, prizes and awards, patents, innovations in industry), the quality of the conference submission, and dedication to the field as evidenced by memberships in turbomachinery-relevant professional societies or relevant volunteer experience. We welcome applications from all candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups and those whose conference participation would otherwise be unfunded. The application should include a short justification for the requested financial support. Preference given to those who have not previously received this award.
