Many of today’s common technologies were developed during World War II. See what you know of them.
Engineering and science have impacted how warfare is conducted since antiquity. Archimedes, who estimated the value of Pi, also designed a system to light enemy ships on fire using sunlight as well as siege machines. The Enlightenment impacted warfare in Europe and the U.S., using rational principles of measurement and standardization that helped push the Industrial Revolution. Guns with interchangeable parts were introduced in the early 19th Century based on principles developed by French artillerists. Engineering and scientific developments continue to this day, of course, and many of today’s programs are founded on developments used during World War II, which ended 75 years ago.
