The Active and Multifunctional Materials Technical Committee (AMMTC) of the SMASIS Division n the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) exists to advance the state of the art, science, and technology in the area of active and multifunctional material synthesis, development, enhancement, characterization, modeling and application through experimental, theoretical or computational means.

Active and Multifunctional Materials Outstanding Contribution Award

The Active and Multifunctional Materials Technical Committee (AMM TC) would like to recognize significant contributions in the field of active and multifunctional materials. This award will recognize outstanding impact in the field through peer-reviewed journal papers, and will promote and advance the efforts of researchers towards higher standards of excellence.

Award Eligibility:
  • The award recognizes significant contribution in the field of active and multifunctional materials. Nominations must be an original contribution with a student (at time of submission to journal) as the first author.
  • Candidate contributions may be nominated any time after their public dissemination / release / launch up until May 11th of the following year, during which the award will be given. For example: A paper published up to December 31st, 2022 is eligible for nomination until May 11, 2023, for the 2023 award.
Application Process:
Nominations are sent to the AMM-TC co-chair. Nominations should include a cover letter and a pdf of the paper being nominated. The cover letter should indicate the paper meets the eligibility criteria, and provide a concise description of the main contribution to active and multifunctional materials made in the paper.

Evaluation Criteria:
Nominated contributions are to be evaluated based on the following equally weighted criteria.
  • Overall quality of technical content.
  • Originality of the contribution and/or method.
  • Impact on the field of Active and Multifunctional Materials.
