This self-study course is designed to be taken at your convenience, and on your own schedule.  You have 90 days to finish the course from the time of purchase.

Nanometrology is the science of measurement at the nanoscale level.  Nanotechnology is widely defined as the synthesis, observation, and manipulation of matter at nanometer length scales.  It is important to note that at this level, forces, such as inertia and gravitation, which dominate at the macro-scale are virtually insignificant; while forces, such as electrostatics and van der Walls force, dominate.  This is one of the chief reasons for the occurrence of most of the phenomenon that are typically studied under nanotechnology.

Likewise, the field of nanometrology investigates the measurement and characterization of phenomena at the nanometer length scales. It is important to note that while the field of Nanotechnology is relatively new, the phenomena that we study have always existed. It is only in recent times that we have developed the capabilities to fabricate, measure, and manipulate nanoscale systems.

You Will Learn
 - The major components and physical properties of three major types of microscopes: SEM, TEM and STM
 - Sample preparation methods for these microscopic techniques
 - The operation modes of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and sample preparation methods for AFM measurements
 - The components of the mass spectrometer
 - The process of mass spectra interpretation
 - The significance of nanoscale Coulter counter devices as an example of a typical nanometrology setup
