Ronald W. Haupt, P.E., is a Consulting Piping Engineer and Founder of Pressure Piping Engineering Associates, Inc. He has over 50 years of professional experience in the design and analysis of industrial process and energy-related structures, equipment, piping, pipelines, and supports. Mr. Haupt is a member of the ASME B31 Pressure Piping Standards Committee, the B31.1 Power Piping Section Committee, B31.3 Process Piping Section Committee, the B31 Technical Committee on Technical Design, and other ASME and ASCE national codes and standards committees.
Jim E. Meyer, P.E., has over 45 years of experience in refining petrochemical, chemical, power generation and industrial facilities. He is a principal engineer at CDM Smith, a full service engineering and architectural firm, located in Wadsworth Ohio. Jim is experienced in overall project coordination/management, pressure equipment, piping design, analysis, specifications, support design, mechanical system requirements and documentation requirements. In particular, areas of his technical competence include ASME piping and pressure vessel codes, stress analysis, field troubleshooting piping system support, vibration, and expansion problems.
Jim is a member of ASME and has been involved in the ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3 Section committees for over 40 years. He is currently, Chair of the ASME B31 Standards Committee, Chair of the B31 Mechanical Design Committee and serves on the ASME Board on Pressure Technology Codes and Standards. Jim has also served as Chair of the ASME B31.3 Process Piping Section Committee and Chair of ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code Section Committee.
Most recently, Jim co-authored chapters in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Companion Guide, 5th Edition, covering the ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code and the B31.3 Process Piping Code. Past projects and work experience has involved major oil refineries, petrochemical plants, fossil, nuclear, solar and alternative energy generation, as well as cryogenic and vacuum test facilities.
John P. Swezy, Jr. has over 35 years of experience in steam and combustion driven prime mover electrical generation plants and associated engineering auxiliary systems, and over 20 years of experience in developing and implementing detailed procedures, work instructions, and QC programs for design, welded fabrication, repairs, and alterations of pressure equipment following ASME, B31, NBIC, API, DOT and various International Codes and Standards. He also has extensive experience in the area of nondestructive examination.
Mr. Swezy has been a member of various ASME Codes & Standards Committees since 1996. He is a National Board Commissioned Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector and an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). He is recognized for his expertise with the ASME Code rules of Section VIII, Divisions 1 and 2 as they apply to toughness, fabrication, and examination of pressure vessels. He is past Chair of the Subgroup on Toughness, newly elected as Chair of the Subgroup on Fabrication and Examination, and member of the Standards Committee for Pressure Vessels. He is also a member of the Standards Committee for Welding, Brazing, and Fusing; the ASME B31 Piping Standards Committee; and is Chair of the B31 Fabrication and Examination Technical Committee. John was presented the ASME Dedicated Service Award in 2013.
Joe W. Frey P.E., is a consulting engineer with over 37 years of experience in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of piping systems. He has specialized in emergency response to failures, providing fitness for service (FFS) evaluations, repair plans, and path forward assistance for catastrophic failures in piping and coal silos. Mr. Frey also has extensive experience in fire damage assessment in refineries and chemical plants. He is currently the Vice Chair of the B31 Code committee, past chair of B31.1, and a member of numerous other piping code subcommittees. Mr. Frey has been instrumental in sponsoring changes in the Code requirements addressing piping maintenance.
Walter J. Sperko, P.E., is President of Sperko Engineering Services, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in metal fabrication technology. He is Chairman of Standards Committee IX and a member of several of its subgroups; a member of Standards Committee III and its Subgroup on Materials, Fabrication and Examination; a member of the B31 Standards Committee; and the past Chairman of the AWS International Standards Activities Committee, which represents the US at meetings of ISO/TC44, Welding and Allied Processes and a member of AWS Technical Activities Committee. He is a professional engineer registered in several states and holds five US patents.
