Dr. Mahmoud Nagi Shatla, M.Sc., Ph.D., CEng FIMechE, is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and has been elected as a Fellow of the UK Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He is Shell UK Onshore Assets Mechanical-Static equipment (pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, boilers, heaters, flares, piping and valves) Technical Authority. Dr. Shatla is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and assets startup/shutdown decisions relevant to mechanical-static equipment for all Shell U.K. onshore assets.
Dr. Shatla is also the director of Technical Integrity Solutions Ltd., Aberdeen, U.K., which specializes in consultancy jobs relevant to Static Equipment and piping Risk Based Inspection (RBI), Fitness-for-Service and Repair. Dr. Shatla has conducted/supervised mechanical design of hundreds of pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and air coolers, per ASME VIII DIV. 1, ASME VIII DIV. 2, PD 5500, EN 13445, API 650, API 620, TEMA, API 660, API 661, and BS EN 14620.
Dr. Shatla has conducted fitness-for-service assessments of hundreds of static equipment and piping components per API 579/ASME FFS. He has supervised RBI, maintenance and temporary/permanent repairs of static equipment and piping using API 579, API 570, API 571, API 572, API 573, API 574, API 575, API 510, NBIC, API 653, API 580, API 581, ASME PCC-2 and ISO 24817. He has extensive experience in static equipment and piping design using the commercial software PVELITE, TANK, CAESAR II, COMPRESS, and the Finite Element Analysis software COSMOSWORKS, ANSYS and ABAQUS.
Dr. Shatla has authored and co-authored more than 20 publications published for International conferences and well-known journals, such as, the Journal of Materials Processing Technology, the International Journal of Machine Tools & Manufacture, and the International Journal of Forming Processes. He earned his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Ohio State University.
