Secretary of Energy Granholm Appoints New Members to the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board

During the first week of October, Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm announced new members of the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB). The board’s 18 members represent a diverse group of energy thought leaders, including experts from academic institutions, labor unions, utility companies, energy equipment manufacturers, and more. Creating leadership groups diverse in thoughts, background, and makeup is a priority of the Biden administration and aligns with ASME’s own diversity, inclusion, and equity goals and practices.

“DOE is laser-focused on its core missions of delivering climate change solutions, strengthening our Nation’s nuclear security, and managing our agency’s environmental legacy,” said Secretary Granholm, who spoke to the ASME community during the inaugural ASME Policy Impact event in May. “I am enthused to welcome these stellar individuals to the SEAB. Their deep and diverse expertise will advise DOE on its core missions and will help steer our efforts to supercharge the clean energy revolution.”

The SEAB is assembled to provide advice and recommendations regarding the administration’s energy policies to the Secretary of Energy. Given that it is the nature of the board to advise the Secretary on potential policy impacts, it is vital that the board represent a broad range of interests and ideas, which is why the Biden administration is so committed to selecting members from diverse backgrounds and walks of life.

ASME focuses on raising awareness and addressing unconscious bias and promoting cultural competence both within ASME and in the engineering field at large.
