ITIF Hosts Webinar on How America and the West can Successfully Compete With China?

The Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF) recently held a webinar to discuss how the U.S. government should respond to the China’s dominance of the global supply chain and what can be done to adjusting China’s market share. The webinar follows the release of a recent ITIF report on “Competing With China: A Strategic Framework.” During the webinar, speaker David Moschella, a research fellow at Leading Edge Forum, provided a unique point of view, as his focus area isn’t necessarily China specifically, but rather on how disruptive technologies are changing business and society.

Moschella shared how Chinese technology disruptions go far beyond manufacturing alone, but are disruptive to almost all industries. He highlights that many U.S. industries actually benefit by using China as a major market, but even so, the U.S. government classifies China as a major competitor because each industry utilizing China as a major market has potential in the near future to be majorly disrupted as technology advances. Given this, Moschella notes that there continues to be increased confrontation between the two nations.

The report discussed during the webinar concludes with five ways to increase Western competitiveness, including: prioritizing technology leadership, attracting world-class talent, partnering with India, reducing U.S. cost disadvantage, and developing a value chain mindset. This last point, developing a value chain mindset, is of particular importance as it encourages the U.S. to have visibility across the entire value chain and better understand industry0specfic value chain knowledge.
