DOE Accepting Proposals for Early Career Research Program for FY 2020

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Early Career Research Program is now accepting proposals for its FY 2020 awards. The program will support the research of 50 outstanding scientists and engineers early in their careers over a five-year period. DOE is looking for applicants to submit proposals aligning with one of size DOE Office of Science programs: (1) Advanced Scientific Computing Research; (2) Biological and Environmental Research; (3) Basic Energy Sciences; (4) Fusion Energy Sciences; (5) High Energy Physics; or (6) Nuclear Physics.

The DOE Office of Science Early Career Research Program was established in 2010 to support individual scientists and engineers conducting research in DOE related fields. The program provides an annual funding opportunity for researchers in universities and DOE national laboratories in an effort to fuether stimulate research careers in the disciplines supported by the DOE Office of Science.

To be eligible, the solicitation states that “a researcher must be an untenured, tenure-track assistant or associate professor at a U.S. academic institution or a full-time employee at a DOE national laboratory. The applicant must also have received a Ph.D. within the past ten years. University awards average around $750,000 for five years.”

Preapplications are mandatory and are due on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Full proposals will be due on Monday, March 16, 2020. Only those applicants that receive notification from DOE encouraging a formal proposal may submit full proposals.
