Apply for a 2022-2023 ASME Congressional Fellowship in Energy, Bioengineering, or Advanced Manufacturing

Apply for a 2022-2023 ASME Congressional Fellowship in Energy, Bioengineering, or Advanced Manufacturing

ASME is currently accepting applications for our 2022-2023 ASME Congressional Fellowships offering opportunities in EnergyBioengineering, and Advanced Manufacturing to promote engineering for the greater good! ASME Members selected to serve as ASME Congressional Fellows will spend one year in Washington, DC serving on the staff of a congressional committee, U.S. Senator, or U.S. Representative. ASME Congressional Fellowships are designed to demonstrate the value of engineering-government interaction, while bringing technical backgrounds and external perspectives to the decision-making process in Congress and providing a unique, life changing experience to the Fellow.

ASME was the first professional engineering and scientific society to have the vision to place a Fellow in the U.S. Congress in January 1973. Policymakers address major legislative and policy issues that face our nation, and as federal legislation becomes increasingly technical, the need for engineering expertise is essential. For the past 48 years, ASME Congressional Fellows have provided a valuable public service to the nation while at the same time providing engineers with a unique opportunity to participate directly in the policymaking process. The result is effective and technologically appropriate public policy based on sound engineering principles.

Applications for our 2022-2023 ASME Congressional Fellowships in EnergyBioengineering, and Advanced Manufacturing will be accepted from September 15, 2021 – December 15, 2021.

ASME Congressional Fellows will be awarded a stipend of $80,000. Fellows typically serve from September through August, although a January through December term is also an option. All Fellows must be U.S. citizens and ASME members at the time of application. The following credentials are encouraged: at least five years of professional experience; an advanced engineering degree; and some public policy experience.

ASME Congressional Fellowships are sponsored by ASME Government Relations, the ASME Foundation, the ASME Petroleum Division, and the ASME Bioengineering Division. For additional information about our 2019-2021 Fellows, view our webinars at “Meet ASME’s Federal Government Fellows.”
