Awards Committee Structure

The Awards Committee works indecently of the InterPack Organization, InterPack EXCOM and EPPD leadership structures. However, the Committee is required to maintain transparency by following the procedures outlined later.

Awards Committee Chair:

The President of the EPPD at the time of the formation of the Award Committee is ex-officio Chair of Committee. The Chair is a non-voting member of the Committee, who shepherds the proceedings of the Committee and breaks any tie vote.

Awards Committee Co-Chair:

InterPack General Chair(s) of the InterPack in consultation with and consent of the InterPack Program Chair and the Awards Committee Chair will appoint a Co-Chair. The Chair and Co-Chair of the Awards Committee select members of the Awards Committee.

Awards Committee Members:

The Chair, in consultation with Co-Chair, selects at least 8 members of the Committee. The nominators and the candidates cannot serve in the Committee. The members must have proven track record of scientific and technical contributions in the areas of electronic packaging of interest to InterPack Community. In forming the Awards Committee a balance must be struck between academia, industry and research organizations as well as a balance between thermal and thermo-mechanical aspects be maintained required. As a guideline draw about a third of the membership (including Co-Chair) from the Interpack EXCOM, which is made of past-General Chairs of InterPack. The Committee should have geographic diversity of the InterPack community by adding members from North America, Europe, and Asia.

Nominations:

Call for Nominations be issued allowing at least 4 weeks for the nominations to be prepared. A reminder must be sent at least a week before the deadline. Chair and Co-Chair, in consultation with the members of the Committee, can decide to extend the deadline. Awards Committee Chair issues Call for Nominations. Nominations should include:

  1. Cover letter from nominator(s)
  2. One-page justification of the candidacy from the nominator(s).
  3. Two-page summary resume including the candidate's career highlights as well as complete contact information.

Nominations received after the deadline and incomplete nominations are invalid.

Past nominations can be grandfathered for two cycles after original submission. This covers three award cycles including the original nomination. The Awards Committee Chair should get a formal consent from the original nominator(s) for the nomination to be grandfathered at any cycle.

Ranking:

The Chair of the Awards Committee should send all the nomination packages received, including grandfathered nominations, to members of the Awards Committee within a week after the deadline for submission of nominations with clear instructions for voting that is ranking the nominations.

The ballots are received by the Chair and Co-Chair of the Awards Committee. Each member should ranks EVERY nomination in a numerical order. Let's say if there are five nominations, rank each one 1, 2 3,4 and 5, assuming 1 is the first preference and 5 the least preference. The Committee Chair will establish such a clearly defined ranking system to be approved by the Committee members.

Ballot Tally

Chair of the Committee tallies ballots and the Co-Chair verifies the tally. The first tally is done without counting the Committee Chair's ballot. If there is a tie for the winner, the Chair's ballot is added to the tally. It is highly discouraged to have multiple winners no matter how we feel about them.

In any case, the Chair and Co-Chair should cast their ballots prior to any member casting the ballot. The Co-Chair verifies the ballot tally before a winner is announced.

Announcement of the Winner

The Chair of the Committee formally communicates the winner's name to the General Chair(s). This communication must include a tabulated ballots of members WITH THEIR NAMES REMOVED for anonymity. They can be identified as Ballot1, Ballot2 and so on.

The Awards Chair should inform InterPack Program Chair, members of the Awards Committee. InterPack General Chair should communicate the result to the nominator of the winner (not the winner), to InterPack EXCOM and to the EPPD
Executive Committee.

Communication to non-Winners

The Awards Committee Co-Chair should inform the nominator(s) of the non-winners of the results and should encourage them to grandfather the nomination for the next cycle. In this communication a ballot tally IS NOT included.
