The 2018 DSCC will continue the tradition of earlier ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Conferences in providing students and young professionals with activities and events tailored to their careers and needs. We are pleased to announce the following activities and events (please check this website periodically for new announcements of activities/events):

The 2018 DSCC Best Student Paper Competition

The 2018 DSCC is pleased to announce a Best Student Paper Award: The first author of a paper who was student at the time of submission is eligible. Finalists will present their papers twice at the 2018 DSCC: (i) at a dedicated Best Student Paper competition session, and (ii) at a regular session. The presentation at the Best Student Paper competition session would be 12 minutes long with 2 minutes reserved for Q&A. The finalists and winner will receive special recognition at the 2018 DSCC awards ceremony prior to the banquet. Moreover, funds will be made available to defray a larger portion of these students' conference-related registration, travel, hotel, and meal expenses than possible through the regular student travel grants.

Eligibility: A participant in the competition must (i) be a student at the time the paper (the competition entry) was submitted to 2018 DSCC; (ii) serve as the first author on the competition entry; (iii) present the paper at DSCC him/herself; and (iv) provide a nomination letter from his/her advisor certifying the above.

To compete for the Best Student Paper Award, the paper must be nominated by the student’s advisor. The nomination letter should be on the official letterhead in the format of the sample letter and should be sent to Dr. Vaibhav Srivastava, Student and Young Members Chair, 2018 ASME DSCC at vaibhav@egr.msu.edu. The deadline for nominations is April 30, 2018.

You will be informed regarding whether or not you have been selected (by an anonymous panel of judges) as a finalist for the award.

DSCC 2018 Student Travel Grants

Small grants will be available to help defray the cost of conference-related registration, travel, hotel, and meal expenses by student attendees. The intent of these grants is not to cover all conference-related student expenses, but rather to partially assist students with these costs.

Eligibility: Travel grants will be available for conference attendees who (i) serve as first authors on DSCC papers; (ii) present these papers at DSCC themselves; (iii) were students at the time they submitted these papers to DSCC; (iv) do not receive reimbursement for the requested travel expenses from other sources; and (iv) provide letters from their advisors certifying the above.

To apply for a student travel grant, the academic advisor of the student should send a letter on the official letterhead in the format of the sample letter to Dr. Vaibhav Srivastava, Student and Young Members Chair, 2018 ASME DSCC at vaibhav@egr.msu.edu by July 15, 2018. You will receive an email confirming your travel grant by August 15, 2018. When you attend DSCC, please ask at the registration desk for the paperwork needed for actual receipt of the travel grant. This paperwork will request some information necessary for you to receive reimbursement (e.g., your address, your Social Security Number for domestic students, your bank account information for students traveling to DSCC from abroad). To protect your privacy, we are collecting this information in person at DSCC, and the information will only be accessible to ASME staff, who will issue your travel grant.
